The developers of Dune: Awakening have also talked about the upcoming server merges during their October update and revealed when it will start.
What are the server merges about? Since the initial hype of Dune: Awakening has decreased over the year, the servers of the survival MMO have been struggling with dwindling player numbers. In Dune: Awakening, there are dozens of servers per region, and each server also has 25 sub-servers, each running a game world.
This causes many players to barely see their neighbors or haven’t seen a player outside the cross-server deep desert for a long time. This is because the smaller player base is spread across many servers. For this reason, many players have been asking for server merges for a while now, and finally, there is news about it.

Server merges coming
What have the developers announced? The developers of Dune: Awakening have announced that the team is currently working on the server merges. More detailed information is expected to be announced later this year, such as when it will happen and how players can relocate their bases.
For the latter, the developers have already presented a new tool. With the “Base Backup Tool,” players will soon be able to pack up their entire base on the test server and place it down again.
The new tool is designed to save all items and is also perfect for taking breaks. Players can essentially pack their game state and easily place it back in the game later if needed, without losing items. A change that has been requested for a long time, but there is still one challenge.
Why are server merges so difficult? While server merges are possible in many games, Dune: Awakening faces a problem with players themselves in addition to the technical aspects. Players’ bases are usually not simply built flat on the land but climb along the cliffs of Arrakis.
However, those very building sites could be occupied on other servers, meaning a solution must be found during a transfer to avoid upsetting any players. What the developers plan here is still unknown, even though it is an important matter for players.
The developers of Dune: Awakening are fulfilling a major player wish with the server merges. At the same time, they must take care of the players’ bases. These have been waited for over months and have also been paid for with taxes. This has caused problems in the past: Dune: Awakening has a big problem right now: You have to play, even though there is nothing to do – otherwise, you will lose your progress
