In the past few days, MeinMMO editor Karsten has extensively played Dragon’s Dogma 2 and tested the various classes. Which career is the best for beginners to start with? Spoiler: Karsten’s recommendations align with the tips from chief developer Hideaki Itsuno.
Which classes are available at the start? At the beginning of Dragon’s Dogma 2, you choose one of four so-called careers: Fighter, Mage, Archer, or Thief.
- The Fighter enters the battle with sword and shield, takes a lot of damage, but also deals solid damage.
- The Mage is a classic spellcaster who uses elemental spells for offense and can heal or support allies.
- The Archer is a physical ranged fighter who can deal high damage from a distance but can’t take much damage.
- The Thief is a nimble melee fighter with high mobility and strong attacks, but also can’t take much damage.
The Best Melee Class for Beginners
You might be leaning towards the Fighter, as this class has the greatest durability of the quartet. However, MeinMMO editor Karsten and Hideaki Itsuno, the chief developer of the role-playing game, recommend the Thief.
Why is the Thief worth choosing? The Thief is the only class that has a dodge maneuver among its basic skills that does not consume stamina. You can learn more skills to increase your mobility throughout your adventure.
Thief Gameplay:
With these movements, you can escape from almost any dangerous situation. If you also ensure that one of the three pawns from the Fighter or Warrior career follows you, you should rarely attract the attention of a strong Ogre, Griffin, or Evil Spirit.
In other words: You can repeatedly attack the back or flank of your target undisturbed as the Thief, causing significant damage. Just watch out for area spells or attacks like the Ogre’s stomp, during which you should temporarily seek cover.
A career for experienced players of Dragon’s Dogma 2 – the Warlord:
The Best Ranged Class for Beginners
If you prefer to fight enemies from a safe distance, we recommend the Archer. While the Mage career offers healing and protective spells, the spellcasters have a disadvantage.
Why is the Archer worth choosing? Mages often cast their spells over several seconds and can be easily interrupted by attacks during this time. Archers cast their shots faster than spells and possess skills to create distance from enemies. They can therefore react more flexibly to enemy movements.
Archer Gameplay:
However, Hideaki Itsuno also recommends the Hunter specialization for another reason:
If you are an FPS or third-person shooter player and can aim well, then the Archer might be a good choice. Because the better you can aim, the better you will handle this type of ranged character. I think this will help you get a grip on the game at the beginning.
