4. The abilities are more useful than you might think
Everyone likes to use super attacks like the Kamehameha or the Death Beam. However, the truly useful tools for general combat are the abilities you should familiarize yourself with when playing your favorite character.
With abilities like Explosion Wave
, for example, you can interrupt your opponent’s combos. Other abilities provide your character with strong buffs, and powerful abilities like “Extreme Power-Up” can transport you to Sparking! mode without charging and buff you additionally.
Just always pay attention to your blue ability bar on the side of your health. Abilities do not cost KI, but ability bar. You will need it for transformations as well.
5. Defense and timing are the best defense
The attack in Sparking! Zero is quite simple, but the most challenging mechanic is defense. Besides the normal block, there are counters, dodges, and teleportations. You learn these in the Super Training
. The most important thing is timing.
You mainly learn this through experience and fighting. You need to learn a certain rhythm, especially with the teleports. Once you’ve mastered that, you will be able to counter or dodge almost any attack. Just don’t forget your KI gauge.
For the teleports and clashes, you need KI. Pay attention to the yellow gauge under your health, just like in Souls games.
6. Pay attention to your movement
Do not just rush at your opponent and use a Dragon Dash. This consumes KI and you will become predictable. Use light dashes with the X button (PlayStation) or the A button (Xbox). This gives you much more control.
It can also pay off to jump slightly or fly and perform a dash attack with the X button and then the square button (PlayStation) or the A button and then the X button (Xbox). This can trick your opponent if he wants to start a predictable combo.
