Son-Goku learns new techniques throughout Dragon Ball that help him to protect the Earth. However, he was already able to use a special technique against Freezer, which he only used twice. If he had trained it further, many fights would have likely become easier.
What kind of technique is this? Son-Goku used telepathy to read Krillin’s thoughts. This allowed him to experience all the events he had missed on Namek. He placed his hand on Krillin’s forehead, after which he received fragmented information about the happenings and the characters involved.
You can watch the use of the technique with English dubbing on Bounty Jake’s YouTube channel:
There is another situation in which Son-Goku used the technique. This also shows that the Saiyan hasn’t actually forgotten this maneuver. Together with Vegeta, he delved into Good Boo’s mind, to understand his separation from Evil Boo.
Why would this ability be so useful? If Son-Goku had trained the technique further, he could have read the thoughts of his opponents without having to touch them with his hand. This way, he could foresee what steps the enemies planned next and would always be one step ahead of them.
There will soon be a MOBA title related to Dragon Ball:
Telepathy is actually a common technique
Who else can use the technique? Son Goku only used the technique twice and seemed to forget it afterward. However, this technique is a common ability used primarily by experienced masters:
- Muten Roshi used telepathy during the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament to read Nam’s thoughts. This way he learned that Nam was searching for water.
- During the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament, the Turtle Hermit uses the technique to communicate with his students.
- Master Kaio often uses the technique to communicate with all beings in the universe. He will also be the one who taught Son-Goku the technique.
It is unclear why Son-Goku did not continue to use the technique to read the minds of others. There is another attack, where the manga artist Akira Toriyama decided not to show it anymore in Dragon Ball.
Throughout Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama not only forgot some attacks but even entire characters. He later wrote a tragic end for one of these forgotten characters that we would not have wished for her: Dragon Ball: Toriyama completely forgot one of the funniest characters – What actually happened to Lunch?
