The sibling pair C17 and C18 consists of artificial humans. Initially, they are enemies of Son Goku and the Z-Team, but over the course of the anime of Dragon Ball Z, C18 develops feelings for Krillin. She becomes his wife and has a daughter named Marron with him. But how is that actually possible?
What is C18 actually? In the Japanese original, C18 means ‘Artificial Human Number 18’. In the English and Spanish versions, she was named Android 18, while in the German translation, she is C18. The ‘C’ stands for Cyborg.
However, there are significant differences between cyborgs and androids:
- Cyborgs are humans with artificial body parts. You know them, for example, from Cyberpunk 2077, where humans have artificial implants. There are also examples from the real world, for example in the field of prosthetics.
- Androids, on the other hand, are humanoid robotic beings that imitate the appearance and behavior of humans. The human body is merely replicated; they have a different body composition and structure than humans.
Thus, the term ‘Artificial Human’ could refer to both beings, as it encompasses androids, cyborgs, and similar hybrid beings. The English and Spanish versions have chosen a different translation than here in Germany. However, they have made a significant mistake in doing so.
C18 will be part of Dragon Ball Daima, which is set to launch in Fall 2024:
C18 can have children due to her nature
Why can C18 have children? In fact, the German translation is the correct designation. C18 is not an android but a cyborg. Therefore, her body is of human nature; only some body parts have been replaced with artificial components.
Thus, she still has her reproductive organs, allowing her to have children. Dr. Gero probably did not tamper with her pelvic area. As a result, she was able to give birth to her daughter Marron.
Due to her human nature, C18 can become stronger through training. She ages like all other humans, although much slower than her peers. She also does not necessarily need to eat and drink, as she has a special energy core.
What is C18 doing today? Although she has started a family with Krillin, she is still a valuable member of the Z-Team. For example, she participated in the Tournament of Power, representing the 7th Universe alongside Son Goku, Vegeta, and Co. C18 was able to defeat several opponents.
After the tournament, she helped fight against Moro’s minions and later against Cell Max. She appears in several films, such as Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and is likely to have some appearances in the upcoming time.
Her husband Krillin is unfortunately not exactly the strongest human fighter. Behind him lies a completely different character who has not appeared in the manga anymore: The strongest human in Dragon Ball seems to have simply been forgotten
