After more than 10 years, a new Dragon Age titled The Veilguard is finally coming. The latest trailer from the Xbox Showcase 2024 received harsh criticism. Just a day later, the developers show 24 seconds of gameplay and immediately address the concerns.
This is what’s happening in Dragon Age right now:
- The latest trailer for Dragon Age 4 shows the companions of the game in a pretty action-packed cinematic. There is no gameplay visible.
- Fans have directly criticized: It doesn’t look like Dragon Age anymore, more like Overwatch, Fortnite, or Borderlands. Comic style, too colorful, somehow it reminds of hero shooters.
- Today, June 11 at 5:00 PM, 15 minutes of gameplay will officially be shown. However, there was already a small teaser and it suddenly excites the critics.

This is what BioWare is showing now: In a 24-second gameplay snippet, we see the dwarf Varric walking through the city of Minrathous with the character Rook. In the description, it says: “They don’t know what dangers await them.”
The gameplay shows a rather dark city, with a ring-shaped structure hovering above it, from which something like searchlights illuminate the area below. The buildings look quite gothic and dark with their reddish glowing windows and dark silhouettes.
Rain gives the short scene a gloomy atmosphere, citizens gather under tarps for shelter, and only one person is huddled by the roadside apparently begging. The short clip feels thoroughly like dark fantasy:

In the comments on X.com, users immediately address that what is shown does not match the overly cheerful trailer at all. It’s something completely different, “really dark and promising” and feels like Dragon Age.
Some users who claim to have already played Dragon Age 4 say:
If you want [Dragon Age: Origins] horror… it is there. Trust me. All the environments I experienced were varied and felt very much like Dragon Age, including the new places.

The X user Shinobi shares a few more pieces of information about the gameplay. For example, it is said that it will be possible to choose from different factions during character creation – including the crows of Antiva and the Grey Wardens.
Other users even make concrete accusations against the critics. They state: As a true Dragon Age fan, one should have given the game a chance instead of condemning it outright. The trailer was exciting, and the teaser now makes the game even more interesting. I feel similarly: Everyone thinks the new trailer for Dragon Age 4 is bad – I am absolutely thrilled
