At the Xbox Showcase on January 23, 2025, the organizers saved the best for last. The new information and gameplay scenes for Doom: The Dark Ages rock.
What was shown? In June 2024, there was the first look at the next hellish trip from the creators at id Software. At the Xbox Showcase on January 23, 2025 (via YouTube), the full metal blast followed. The developers showcased the new direction that The Dark Ages is taking for the iconic Doom series.
While Doom from 2016 was about “Run & Gun” and its successor Doom: Eternal was about “Jump & Shot”, the third part of the reboot series focuses on “Stand & Fight”. Armed with shield and weapons, you will plow through the hordes of demons like an almost indestructible tank.

An enormously important role is played by your shield, which you can throw at enemies like Captain America, use for a charge, or deploy for protection. You usually combine this with some of the “ridiculously powerful guns” that are said to have ever existed for the Doom series.
When you parry enemy attacks with the shield, you need peacekeepers to turn the nearby victims into hand-sized pieces. The dark ages offer you three options: a flail, an electric glove, or a hellish mace.

Release already in May
When is the new Doom coming? The Dark Ages will be released on May 15, 2025, for Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5.
