The Japanese gaming company Sega (Sonic) takes the protection of its work very seriously. The company states in a statement how seriously it takes the protection of its employees. They are willing to take appropriate measures if boundaries are crossed, including legal action.
That was the problem: An employee of Sega was harassed so much and for so long that he could no longer work. Sega says:
- The harassment of an employee has crossed a line
- It lasted for a long time and prevented the employee from continuing his work in peace
- Since there was no improvement in the situation in sight, they were forced to take legal action against it
Sega makes the harasser pay damages and delete everything
This is what Sega did: The company obtained the data of the harasser with the consent of the court and took legal action against him.
They reached a settlement with the harasser which ensures that the employee will receive compensation, and the harasser must delete all derogatory and offensive comments and refrain from such behavior in the future.
Sega says that while they appreciate feedback and sometimes even harsh comments, such insults against employees clearly go too far.
Don’t mess with Sega
This is what Sega announces: The company states that they will continue to take “appropriate measures” should the human rights of employees be violated.
In the end, this means: Anyone who messes with Sonic or his friends can expect to have to explain themselves in court.
