Snail Games and Virtual Basement announced a Survival MMO in the Wild West with Outlaws of the Old West. Could this game become a Red Dead Online for PC or will we face a disappointment like Wild West Online?
An Online Game in the Wild West
What is Outlaws of the Old West? Your task in the online game is to survive in the Wild West and build a home. You can team up with other players or fight against the bandits.

- Exploration – You travel alone or in a group through a vast world that features deserts, grasslands, swamps, and mountainous tundra terrain. There, you will encounter different weather conditions, animals, and resources.
- Player-driven Narrative – You determine through your actions how the game develops on your server. A morality system comes into play, allowing you to build a reputation as a defender of settlements or become an outlaw who terrorizes the population.
- Settlement Building – You build camps, settlements, and fortifications. It is even possible for you to become the mayor of a town. Or you can open a shop in a settlement and become a wealthy trader through the sale of items.
- Player-driven Economy – Mine gold, trade with players, sell items, or contribute in other ways to ensure the economy in the game thrives.
- Crafting – By gathering resources, you create tools and weapons that you can either use yourself or sell to other players.
- Farming – It is necessary to ensure a food supply. For this, you fish, hunt, establish a farm for livestock, or grow crops.
- Character Progression – By gaining experience points through your deeds, your character levels up and becomes more powerful over time.
Just a Reskin of ARK?
What impression does the game make? From the description and the trailer, Outlaws of the Old West gives the impression of an ARK or ARK in the Wild West. In the sandbox, you can do whatever you want, must survive, and fight against other players or team up with groups. Similar to how it is with Atlas and ARK.
And this is no coincidence, as the developer studio Virtual Basement worked on ARK as well. The publisher is Snail Games.

How do players react to the MMO? Generally, there is an interest in the game. But for instance on Steam, there is discussion about whether we are simply expecting a “reskin” of ARK or Atlas.
Rats mentions something on Steam: “This is just ARK in new clothes. What a coincidence that this game starts right in the downtime of Atlas, just before their wipe, when everyone is looking for something else to play.”
Moreover, some players are somewhat disappointed by the trailer since the gameplay scenes stutter. Therefore, a similar performance to ARK is feared. Additionally, the game Wild West Online comes to mind, which was similarly structured but was so disappointing that it ultimately had to be shut down.
When will Outlaws of the Old West be released? The start of the Early Access phase is via Steam planned for March 12. It is a Buy2Play game, but the price has not yet been announced.
