On January 25, the VIP demo of Anthem launches. Many have wondered whether a PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold subscription are required to play the demo. We at MeinMMO asked Electronic Arts and received an answer.
You will need a PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold subscription to play the demos of Anthem. This was confirmed by Electronic Arts to MeinMMO.
Why are PS Plus and Xbox Gold needed? Anthem is an online multiplayer game. This also applies to the demo version of Anthem.
PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold are subscription models for the respective consoles that incur monthly fees. You need these subscriptions to use the online features of the consoles.
Online multiplayer in Anthem: Overall, you can embark on missions in Anthem with four players, run raids, or explore the world in Freeplay. Since these are not different game modes, PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold are required in any case.
There is a matchmaking system for all group functions in Anthem, which allows you to assemble your group as desired. Matchmaking is also available in the demo.
Two demos for Anthem before release
What kinds of demos are these? On January 25, a VIP demo launches. You will only have access to this demo if you pre-ordered Anthem. The VIP demo is analogous to a “Closed Beta”. However, BioWare believes that the term demo is more accurate.

On February 1, there will also be an open demo that everyone can participate in. Pre-ordering Anthem is not necessary for this demo. It would then be comparable to an “Open Beta”.
When does Anthem release? Anthem is set to release on February 22, 2019.
The demo version of Anthem will differ from the released version of the game. The demo of Anthem will be “easier” since you will earn experience and money faster. This is intended to allow you to see and test as much as possible before Anthem’s launch.
