Twitch has published some interesting statistics on streamed games and their viewers. Which games dominate the platform?
LOL, CS:GO, DOTA 2, and Hearthstone dominate Twitch
For those for whom gaming is more than just a small hobby, they have surely spent some time on the streaming portal Twitch in recent years. Numerous major tournaments are watched live there, individual streamers showcase their skills in various games, or simply silly formats like “Fish plays Pokemon” attract significant attention. Those looking for something new on Twitch will also find it.
However, Twitch is largely dominated by 4 games that retain nearly two-thirds of the viewers.
- At the forefront is the MOBA League of Legends, which was viewed by 88 million players in April – that’s 10% more viewers compared to the 80 million in April of last year.
- Significantly stronger has increased the runner-up, Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), which raised its viewer count from 39 million to 73 million.
- Far behind is number 3, DOTA 2 from Valve with 43 million viewers (12 million more than last year).
- Hearthstone sits at a narrow 4th place with 41 million viewers (10 million more than in April 2015).
Overall, these 4 titles account for 65% of the viewers who regularly visit Twitch.
While there are occasionally other games that appear briefly in the top 10, these regularly compete for positions 5-10. In April, games like “The Division” and “Dark Souls 3” appeared, but who doesn’t enjoy watching others struggle?
The “big 4” are more or less set in stone, although Hearthstone briefly secured 3rd place last year, quickly falling behind Dota 2 again.
