Paladins: Champions of the Realm – Individual champions make the charm
Paladins (PC, Xbox One, PS4) is a free-to-play hero shooter from Hi-Rez. The action-packed strategy game is often compared to Overwatch. In both games, teams of 6vs6 must capture a control point and push into the enemy base. However, Paladins offers significantly more MOBA elements through its unique card system. Before and during matches, players can individually customize the champions with card decks.
There are talent cards that players buy during matches and are the same for every champion and player. These are to be understood like items and provide talents like healing or movement speed. Additionally, players outfit their champions with a deck that is equipped before the match. These cards can be leveled up to improve their statistics. However, since there is a point limit for these decks, the player cannot simply combine the strongest cards.
A strategic decision must be made regarding which abilities to enhance the most. This allows one to customize the champion to be most useful to them or as they prefer to play. The Ying support has enough options to receive many damage upgrades. The flanker Sky can be played stealthily from the shadows or rush into battle with increased movement speed.
The champions are also the strength of Paladins: a colorful bunch of heroes that clearly differ in playstyle and personality, providing a different gaming experience.
Paladins is already quite popular on PC and will soon start with an open beta for PS4 and Xbox One. Currently, a closed beta for PS4 and Xbox One is running, where free codes are available.
