Diablo 4 has provided a deep insight into its systems with the open beta. However, the endgame remains the great unknown variable. More details are expected to be announced in a Dev Blog in April. In a personal interview with the people behind the new action RPG, we at MeinMMO were able to learn a few details.
Over 10 years after the release of Diablo 3, the long-awaited successor Diablo 4 will be released on June 6. MeinMMO had the opportunity to speak with two high-ranking employees in a personal interview: Joe Shely (Game Director) and Rod Fergusson (General Manager of the Diablo Franchise).
I made it clear that I have a particular interest in the endgame. Although they did not want to reveal too much, the official endgame presentation will only come in April (via twitter.com). However, I was able to extract a few interesting details from them.
Are you looking for alternatives to Diablo 4 after the beta to keep you occupied until the release? Then start our video:
Diablo 4 will offer “Targeted Loot”
Rod Fergusson summarized the endgame in one sentence: “Everything revolves around finding your desired equipment intentionally.” Joe Shely said: “The endgame is like that in Diablo 3, but with a lot more stuff.”.
Unlike the launch of Diablo 3, the fourth installment will already have three pillars on which the PvE endgame is based at release:
- Hell Tide Events
- Nightmare Dungeons
- The Tree of Whispers
Players will also be given tools to specifically search for the items they need for their build: for example, Hell Tide Events.
These events take place in random regions of the open world. Shely said: “You don’t want to stumble into that randomly.” Monsters here are significantly stronger, and good builds and preparation are important. While slaughtering monsters, you collect currency to open the Hell Tide chest for that region.
This chest offers “Targeted Loot”. You already know in advance which equipment slot you will receive an item for and can accordingly choose the Hell Tide region that suits you.
What other “Targeted Loot” tools will be available, the two of them did not want to reveal to me yet. However, the other two activities are also supposed to benefit from it.
Diablo 3 was a “great foundation”
Will Seasons be like in Diablo 3? Similar to D3, the seasons are expected to come with specific own gameplay mechanics. Here, everything is supposed to be a bit bigger than in the predecessor.
Diablo 3 has been described as a “great foundation” because it allowed for many experiences to be gained regarding what endgame content is particularly exciting for Diablo fans.
There was no mention of creating season characters like in Diablo 3. It seemed rather that the focus is on the actual main characters, for which different builds are then sought to accomplish the hardest and newest activities.
This is more reminiscent of Diablo Immortal, which also does without season characters but lacks the PvP battles between “Shadows and Immortals”. This should please MeinMMO editor Benedict: I want Diablo 4 to be like Diablo Immortal.
As soon as there are further details about the endgame, you will find all the information on MeinMMO. If you have questions on the topic, feel free to leave a comment. What we know, we will share with you.
