In Diablo 4, new players are mainly wondering how to change weapons – this is a special mechanic of the Barbarian. MeinMMO helps.
How do I switch my weapon? In principle, you cannot change weapons yourself. Instead, your character automatically equips a weapon as soon as you activate a corresponding skill – at least with the Barbarian. So you let your skills switch the weapon for you.
However, you can assign a weapon to certain skills that you want to switch to. This works through the corresponding skill itself:
- opens the quick selection of your skills
- press the S key on the keyboard
- navigate to your skills on PS5/Xbox and press L3
- select the corresponding skill
- cycle through the weapons using the middle mouse button or X (Xbox)/Square (PlayStation)
Why do I need to switch weapons? Barbarians have a unique class mechanic that allows them to carry 4 weapons, which they need for different skills. This results in plenty of build options.
Certain skills require a corresponding weapon. You need to make sure that you have such a weapon equipped in your slots; otherwise, the corresponding ability will not work. Select the weapon in your inventory and drag it to a slot or equip it using a button.
Some abilities allow you to specify a certain weapon to switch to. However, it is often advisable to use a specific type of weapon. Because you gain expertise with the weapons, with which you become better through their use.
It may therefore be worthwhile not to use different weapons too early but to first focus on one type – such as two-handed axes. Pay close attention to which type of weapon you want to level up.

How to find better weapons
If you want to experiment further with the Barbarian or another class, you can equip yourself with legendary items. We have already selected for you the best farm spots for legendaries and upgrade materials.
You should definitely visit the world bosses as soon as one of them appears. While there are occasionally failures, usually a kill rewards you with several legendaries and takes less time than most other activities.
The special unique items and Uber Uniques
