In the Hell Hordes in Diablo 4 there are plenty of nasty enemies – from Hellflowers to bosses. But for many players, there is a certain enemy that costs them particularly many nerves and respawns.
The Hell Hordes are the new endgame activity that came with Season 5 in Diablo 4. There, you fight against waves of monsters consisting of various enemy types. Most recently, you will encounter 3 bosses from the “Cruel Council.” If you manage to master all waves and bosses, you can choose rewards at the end.
In the waves, you are hunted by very different monsters. The “Burning Butcher” can also appear – sometimes even in pairs. But a certain enemy causes frustration for many players.
Update August 26: On August 26, there was a hotfix that resolved the issue of some enemies doing more damage than intended (via Blizzard Forum). This includes the Desecrator, as well as the Hellborne and the Beast in Ice.
“This is incredibly frustrating”
Which enemy annoys the players? In various posts on Reddit and in the Diablo 4 forum, players complain about the “Desecrator”. This is an elite enemy in the Hell Hordes that appears randomly. “sjl2132” writes in his Reddit post that the Desecrator always oneshots him. He notes: “Just imagine that in Hardcore.” In Hardcore mode, a death of the player character is permanent.
In another Reddit post, “chyeah_brah” writes that he can “survive any hit from the “Tormented” Duriel“, while the Desecrator kills him with a single hit. He notes: “A random 160 demon can one-shot me, but a much more powerful 200 demon cannot.”
Also in the Diablo 4 forum, the Desecrator is a topic. “Charletron” writes in a post: “Desecrators are by far the most dangerous enemies in the Hell Hordes. 15 Hellflowers at the same time? No problem. Endboss without using a potion or dodging damage? No problem. Desecrator? One hit and you’re done.”
And “Trogdor” writes there: “Yes, this is the most frustrating thing I am struggling with this season. I love the Hell Hordes, but I can easily tank the ‘Burning Butcher’ for five minutes and then constantly get taken out from afar by these Desecrators with a hit – that is incredibly frustrating.”
What is the problem with the enemy? The Desecrator uses strong attacks that deal enormous damage and can also hit from a distance. He shoots fire projectiles, spawns fire circles around him and attacks you in close combat with his weapon.
A short clip on Reddit shows the projectiles that kill a player character instantly. The player is level 100, the Desecrator level 180 – they encounter each other right at the beginning of their run in the Hell Hordes at level 7:
Individual players note in the posts that the Desecrator must be bugged. By now, Blizzard has at least responded in a post on X. Community Manager Adam Fletcher writes that the team has heard many complaints about this and is working on it. What this specifically means will become apparent later.
However, the developers have announced a patch for the coming week, which will bring some changes to the Hell Hordes. The patch will include a few bug fixes, but also compensation for missing loot and more ether.
