A player of Diablo 4 hoped he could improve his items and spent a lot of gold. Now, not only is he broke, but he is also disappointed.
In Diablo 4, one of the main goals is to constantly improve your equipment. The eternal grind for special items, leveling up, and farming gold and materials is accordingly an important part of the game principle.
Some of your equipment items can even be upgraded or re-rolled at certain NPCs to ideally become stronger. However, as a player recently showed on Reddit, this can backfire.
Why did the player spend so much gold? The Reddit user Hampton_89 wanted a specific enchantment and got angry because he didn’t get it.
Then Hampton_89 had the item re-rolled by an Occultist for gold in the hope of getting the desired enchantment.
However, with each re-roll, the costs rise, and ultimately he reported having spent 110 million gold, yet did not get the desired enchantment. To make matters worse, he was broke afterwards and had no gold left.

How does the community react? In the comments section of the Reddit post, many players share their thoughts on the re-roll system. One says you earn gold in Diablo 4 much slower than in Diablo 3 and moreover, the re-roll costs have doubled in comparison.
Another player emphasizes that he doesn’t like spending an entire week farming specific equipment with desired affixes, spending thousands of materials and millions of gold to test a build that looks fun, only to find out that it isn’t fun. He is frustrated by how “anti-experimentation” the game is.
There are also some users who had similar experiences as the post’s author and shared in the comments. Some recount re-rolling items until the costs become too high. In general, the system seems to cause a lot of frustration and dissatisfaction.
