A player of Diablo 4 made it his mission to find out at which tier level Nightmare Dungeons should be approached in order to have the best chances of getting good loot. Over the course of 18 days, he completed 400 dungeons between tier levels 21 and 100 and collected more than 8,000 items. His conclusion: Instead of level 100, one should aim for level 65.
What kind of experiment was this?
- The player fpsthirsty was tired of grinding at level 100 and set himself a task that was varied for him and useful for the community.
- He gradually completed the Nightmare Dungeons of levels 21–100: There he always finished 5 dungeons per tier level and noted what Ancestral Items came out.
- He played from August 17 to September 3 and took about 18 days.
Tier level 40 is the 1st important threshold for dungeons
What did he find out? You can read the exact evaluation and the results of his self-study here.
The summarized insights are:
- Those looking for the strongest items, with a power level of more than 785, can suffice with playing tier 20. Even there, items with high power level can be found.
- An important value is tier level 40. From tier level 20 to 39, the average item value is significantly lower than from 40 onwards. From this level, the average value of items is around 775.
- Above tier level 40, the average strength of found items only increases slightly, but the probability of finding Ancestral Items increases significantly: A tier 100 dungeon has a 60% higher drop probability than a dungeon at 40.
Tier level 65 should be a good goal for many players in Diablo 4
What does this mean in short? You should farm a nightmare dungeon of tier level 40 or higher as long as you can comfortably progress through a dungeon at this level.
However, it’s not very useful to significantly increase the tier level if it takes much longer to do so.
As PC Gamer writes, this is initially “counterintuitive” because one assumes that tier level 100 would be particularly rewarding. However, the statistics say otherwise.
At higher tier levels, you do get more items, but not necessarily better ones. In contrast, it takes significantly longer to complete a tier 100 dungeon compared to a tier 40. For most players, it would pay off to stay somewhere around tier level 65.
