Vessel of Hatred has brought numerous new content to Diablo 4 – including runes, mercenaries, and a new area. Players, however, praise a feature that apparently surprised them: the regular new dungeons.
With Season 6 and Vessel of Hatred, Diablo 4 has received a major overhaul. Blizzard has eliminated the often-criticized world tiers and introduced new difficulty levels, with the new max level being 60 and the Paragon points being separate from that.
The expansion has also brought a new area, Nahantu, into the game – including new dungeons. A player praises exactly those in his post on Reddit and states: They feel much better than the “old” dungeons. He is surprised that somehow no one is talking about it.
Why were the dungeons annoying since release? A year ago, the consensus was that many players completely ignored the dungeons because they were simply too boring and offered hardly any advantages. They were also unsuitable for leveling at certain stages because the levels were at or even below the level of the player character.
With the new difficulty levels, that is different – the monster levels always orient themselves to the respective tier. Additionally, there is a fresh breeze on the map with Nahantu and a total of 20 new dungeons.
Exploration without a goal = more fun
Why are the dungeons better? The user Hctaz has completed some new dungeons for regional progress. He noticed how much better the new dungeons are structured, he writes on Reddit. He calls them “the best (?) new feature that no one is talking about.” The structure is better, but also the simple goal that you have as a player in the dungeon: Explore the place and kill the boss.
Other dungeons are more monotonous and feel far from what people loved about dungeon crawling, he writes in the post. The tasks in other dungeons are often annoying – such as “Loot corpses to find keys.”
In the comments, numerous users discuss the topic. Overall, the dungeons in Nahantu seem to be well received. Players praise the following aspects:
- The simple goal of exploring the dungeon and killing the boss feels like a massive upgrade over the other tasks.
- It generally feels better to be able to explore without a predetermined goal.
- While there are still additional tasks, they are optional and then offer more loot.
- The new dungeons feel better because they are more open and have fewer dead ends. You are not “punished” if you choose the wrong path. Especially in dungeons with goals like “Find item XY,” you often have to run back through half the dungeon.
- The monster density is higher in the new dungeons.
- Individual dungeons in Nahantu are huge, but it doesn’t feel annoying to spend time in them because exploring is fun.
- Players are surprised by the random, hidden tasks they discover in the dungeons. For example, they find Animus, even though collecting it is not a goal at all, but then realize that it can open a kind of treasure room.
“Diablo 4 finds its own style”
What else do players praise about the new features? In the comments, the new outposts and especially the outpost in the southeast of Nahantu are praised. There is a part of the map that is hidden until you capture the outpost. The user wtfakakali praises the new option to mark a waypoint as a favorite.
In another post on Reddit, Kal0dan praises the direction that Diablo 4 is taking – fighting is fun, the items are interesting and there are mercenaries. It is nice to find one’s own play style on the new difficulty levels, he notes. The game is slowly finding its own style, and the foundation is now very solid.
He also praises the new group search tool: “I jump into groups that are advertised […]. It’s fun to figure out how I can use my skills to complement what the other players are doing.” With the group finder, you have the option to create a party in Diablo 4 or to find a suitable party for yourself. This feature is suitable for endgame activities at your chosen difficulty level, but also for boss runs, exploring, or for dungeons.
