Diablo 4: Lightning Build for Sorcerer is Perfect for Leveling and for Bosses

The Sorceress is a class with huge damage potential in Diablo 4. MyMMO editor Benedict Grothaus tested a shocking lightning build in the beta, making even bosses feel effortless.

The beta of Diablo 4 is still running, where I’m getting my first overview of the various classes in the game. After my rogue build for the huntress was really fun, I have now tried the Sorceress. You can find all our builds here:

After I actually wanted to try a fire build that didn’t really work, colleague Maik Schneider pointed out the lightning skills to me.

And oh boy! The build hits hard. I effortlessly blast through enemies and even melt bosses in no time – and I’m still missing the best legendaries. The build even works excellently for leveling.

You can find information on all 5 classes from Diablo 4 here . In this video, colleague Anna Alberg takes a fortress, showing how the build looks in action:

Sorcerer Build for Diablo 4 – Skill Tree and Legendaries

Pro
  • Huge damage output against single targets
  • No problems with smaller groups
  • “Cookie Cutter” build for leveling, solo and group play
  • Easy to master
  • Works even without legendaries
Contra
  • Weak against large hordes of enemies
  • No defense
  • Requires a lot of movement

The most important skills (at level 25):

  • Spark: 5/5
    • Improved Spark
    • Flickering Spark
  • Chain Lightning 5/5
    • Improved Chain Lightning
    • Destructive Chain Lightning
    • instead: Greater Chain Lightning (in boss fights)
  • Teleportation 1/5
  • Lightning Spear 5/5
    • Improved Lightning Spear
    • Summoned Lightning Spear
  • Static Discharge 1/3
  • Unstable Flow 1/1

If you gain additional skill points or find skills on items, you should try to maximize Static Discharge and Rejuvenating Connection, or improve your Unstable Flow.

The special class mechanic of the Sorceress allows her to choose enchantments that enhance her abilities. Use the passive effect of Chain Lightning as an enchantment here.

These legendary aspects you need:

  • Unbroken Chains: Chain Lightning jumps more often
  • Aspect of the Expectant: When you attack enemies with basic skills, the damage of your next basic skill increases by 5% (up to a maximum of 50%)
  • Shattering Energy: Lightning Spear has a chance to summon another Lightning Spear
  • Swift Aspect (optional): Basic skills gain higher attack speed
  • Aspect of Efficiency (optional): Basic skills reduce the mana cost of the next basic skill
  • Inner Calm (only in groups): You deal more damage when you remain stationary
  • Charging Aspect (against bosses): Chain Lightning grants mana when it bounces off you

Most aspects are not guaranteed to be obtained in the beta, as they drop in dungeons in Scosglen. However, you can find the corresponding items with some luck while farming. A good source is the world boss Ashava.

Gameplay and Playstyle

This is how you play the build: You deal the most damage with Chain Lightning and Lightning Spear, where you increase the strength with other effects. It works as follows:

  • Use Unstable Flow on cooldown or against particularly tough enemies
  • Attack single enemies up to 10 times with Spark to create Crackling Sparks and enhance Chain Lightning
  • Use Chain Lightning to create more Crackling Sparks
  • Collect Crackling Sparks that appear on the ground – continue to attack while running
  • Use Lightning Spear on cooldown, preferably with 5 stacks of Summoned Lightning Spear

The core mechanic of the build is the passive Crackling Sparks. By collecting these, you further enhance some of your abilities and the sparks discharge to deal damage to nearby enemies. This makes you a deadly threat yourself.

With Teleportation, you can quickly reposition yourself if things get tight or collect Crackling Sparks. When fighting bosses or single enemies, do not stand too far away so that Chain Lightning can jump between you and the enemy.
