Blizzard introduced a new boss to Diablo 4 on April 1, 2026. There are items you can’t get anywhere else. Many players missed the original joke – but it seems you still have time to catch the fun.
What kind of boss is this?
- Hä’nar, the Hell Rooster, (in English: “Chick’Khan”) is a new world boss since April 1. He can spawn at certain times in the usual locations for world bosses in Sanctuary.
- Depending on whom you ask, the boss is either a slouch who simply falls over or a killing machine that mows down players in droves. There are both opinions in the community.
- Similar to the Pinnacle bosses, Chick’Khan has a loot table, but here with items that can only be obtained from him… or her?
Seriously? Yes. Even though the creature was originally a prank from Blizzard, you can fight the boss since April 1 and grab the loot as well as an achievement with a title (“Bawk”, “Bawk”). The new uniques are actually quite strong – up to the level you’d expect from world bosses.
For the best builds of the season, the weapons that Hä’nar can drop are not necessary, and they are probably not better than other uniques, but each of them has special effects:
- Chicken Eye (“Cluckeye”): The bow has up to a 50% chance to shoot a chicken instead of an arrow – and yes, this is the same bow as from Diablo 3.
- Cluckonomicon (“Cluckonomicon”): I… apologize, but the effect of the staff must suffice: “Picking loose stones grants you egg illumination,” and no, I didn’t want to check what that does.
- Eggsecutioner (“Eggsecutioner”): Opponents killed with this scythe can lay eggs.
- Eggis (“Eggis”): If you block attacks with this shield, there’s a chance the attacker turns into a chicken.
- Coop de Grâce (“Coop de Grâce”): If you hit injured opponents with this polearm, there’s a chance to summon “a flock of explosive chickens.”
I apologize if the text here sometimes sounds a bit flippant, but while researching, I had to alternate between laughing and facepalming. Please forgive me…
That said: Since Chick’Khan was intended as an April Fool’s joke, but could drop so many cool items and enabled a completely ridiculous title – which apparently is intended – many players missed it and now regret not logging in. But it seems there are still chances.
“Was too tired from work and then they drop this?”
Blizzard only announced Hä’nar with a short blog post that many people probably didn’t catch or only perceived it as exactly that: a blog post. The reality of the boss slowly became apparent.
On Reddit, there are a few threads where people are discussing Chick’Khan and his loot. Those who participated discuss the rewards and the fight. Those who missed it are gnashing their teeth:
“April 1 was yesterday in the time zone where I live, and I decided not to play because I was too tired from work. And then they drop this? Story of my life…”

Also in other threads players hope they will have another chance to face Chick’Khan because they had to work. And it seems that is still possible.
At 12:00 PM German time on April 2, Hä’nar appeared again. How long this will last, we do not know, but the shop is still offering a free April Fool’s emblem to pick up until next Wednesday, April 8. So the event will probably run until then.
Another theory from some players, though probably not taken too seriously, is the upcoming announcement of the Witch Doctor as a new class. It also had chicken-related skills in Diablo 3, but… that’s probably just clucking from the community.
However, there are several rumors and legends surrounding chickens, especially concerning the Witch Doctor – similar to the cow level that people are still searching for in Diablo 4, which may finally be found with Lord of Hatred: Diablo: What is the cow level in the ARPG and why does everyone want to find it?
