Blizzard released a new hotfix for Diablo 4 during the night of October 11th to 12th. The update provides you with more Forgotten Souls. The patch notes are brief, but the changes bring joy – and a little criticism.
This is included in the hotfix:
- With the latest hotfix, Blizzard has increased the amount of Forgotten Souls you receive in Torment 1-4. Among other things, there are now guaranteed drops from dungeon bosses and more.
- You need Forgotten Souls in the endgame for improving items through hardening and completion. However, it has become harder to obtain them since Season 6.
- Since the release of Vessel of Hatred, there have been almost daily hotfixes with improvements. Just recently, the drop rate of important crafting materials was increased.
Where can I now get more Forgotten Souls? Community Manager Adam Fletcher posted the official patch notes in the forum. Specifically, there are now the following changes regarding Forgotten Souls:
- In Torment 1, 3 souls are dropped instead of 1 per drop.
- In Torment 2, 5 souls are dropped instead of 1-2 per drop.
- In Torment 3, 7 souls are dropped instead of 2 per drop.
- In Torment 4, 10 souls are dropped instead of 3 per drop.
- Dungeon bosses, Whispering chests, and building bosses now definitely drop Forgotten Souls based on torment difficulties.
- The bosses of each wing in the Dark Citadel drop more Forgotten Souls.
- At the end of the Underbelly of Kurast, you now find crafting materials as rewards, including souls.
The changes are intended to ensure that souls no longer act as a bottleneck. While all other crafting materials were plentiful, souls have been rather rare so far.

Blizzard makes the endgame easier, fans argue whether it’s good
Users on Reddit are actively discussing the changes. Many agree that the change regarding souls is positive. After all, this resource has been blocking the endgame at the moment.
Others argue: a little scarcity is certainly appropriate. The endgame of Diablo is all about grind. And in any case, such a buff in drop rates is just a first step; people will quickly demand more until the game plays “by itself”.
It is quite normal for the community to be divided at the beginning of a season in Diablo 4. Hardcore players are always far ahead, while casuals catch up only a few weeks later. There is constant friction here. In general, however, the change should lead to a positive player experience.
Overall, Vessel of Hatred and Season 6 are very well received. There are a few points of criticism, but Blizzard is continually refining these with hotfixes and already planned major patches. The mood is good: players say: Diablo 4 is much better with Vessel of Hatred, especially a feature that has been annoying since release
