In Diablo 4, one class particularly dominates the top of the tier lists when it comes to strong builds in the endgame. However, a player has opted out of the OP builds and found that the fights suddenly take longer – and his character almost dies in the process.
What is the current OP class?
- At the beginning of October, the first new class entered the game with the expansion for Diablo 4, Vessel of Hatred – the Spiritborn.
- It quickly became clear that the Spiritborn dominates the tier lists of the strongest builds in the endgame of Diablo 4 in Season 6. He is also somewhat stronger than the competition in the top tier.
- One of the strongest builds in the game right now is the Stachelsalve build, which utilizes the power of the Eagle Spirit. You throw feathers around you that explode, blowing apart single enemies or decimating groups.
In various posts on Reddit, players show how they master the toughest content in Diablo 4 and have a lot of fun doing it. Often, it is mentioned: This is only possible if you actually play a Spiritborn.
A player now reports on his experience in hardcore mode. After starting with a Spiritborn in Season 6, he decided on a sorceress during a run. He realized that boss fights actually have mechanics. He just had never seen them before.
In the video, you can see gameplay of a possible build of the Spiritborn in Diablo 4:
“Through OP builds, game design is lost”
What experience did the player have? In a post on Reddit, Deathwalkx reports that his “normal” build reminds him that content in Diablo 4 actually has mechanics. Previously, he had played a Spiritborn, he writes. He could “pretty much one-shot everything in the game” – even bosses on torment level 4. The season quickly became boring.
Now, he plays a sorceress in hardcore mode, without guides, according to his own ideas, he says. In the undercity of Kurast, the new “time-attack dungeon” in Vessel of Hatred, he suddenly had to deal with the mechanics of the boss because the fight took longer. He had never seen the mechanics before.
In that fight, his character almost died. That would have been frustrating, as a death in hardcore mode is permanent. However, he had a lot of fun with the fight, he writes. It made him think:
I thought about how much of game design is lost when you play completely overpowered builds where you just mindlessly clear the screen over and over again. […]
Torment level 4 should mean that you need skill, concentration, and good equipment to handle the content, and a boss should take at least 60 seconds for all classes and builds so that you can actually experience the game.
What do other players say about this? In the comments, various users note that they actually enjoy both – experiencing boss mechanics in longer fights and also defeating bosses in just a few seconds.
For example, urzasmeltingpot writes that he enjoys destroying mobs on torment level 4 as an “overpowered god.” He notes: “Different things can mean fun for different people. I have limited time to play. The faster I can kill things and farm loot, the better.”
And bluops writes that he wishes for an easy way to switch between builds. “You could have a meta one-shot build and next to it an experimental build, without having to go through that annoying switch every time,” he says.
A weapon chamber or skill loadouts are much desired by many players for a long time. With that, it would be possible to save combinations of skills and items and easily retrieve them. You would not have to completely rethink your build or create a new class to try out different builds. Blizzard has recently announced that the requested feature for Diablo 4 is already in development.
