Many players fell victim to the ban hammer that Blizzard once again wielded through the rankings of Diablo 3.
The last ban wave in Diablo 3 had a particular timing that should have hit many cheaters on the US servers hard. The ban came just before the end of the current Season 9.
During this time, many of the cheaters felt secure in the rankings and believed that this manipulated position would now be recorded in their statistics. But this is exactly where Blizzard draws the line and removes these players.
Blizzard gave cheaters false hope
Recently, it became known that Blizzard sued a German bot manufacturer for 8.5 million dollars. Through the current ban of the Diablo 3 cheaters, Blizzard clearly shows the community what they think of cheaters in the game.
As Troupster.com reports, hundreds of accounts are missing in the 4-player leaderboard of Diablo 3 – many of them from the clan. In the following image, it can be seen that only one character is depicted in the first place of the 4-player leaderboard. Other players such as Cooba, Eternal, and ULU are no longer displayed in the rankings.
Unfortunately, there are no exact figures on how many players Blizzard has hit with this ban. However, some players are missing from the four-player leaderboard on the US servers. Currently, only 102 characters are registered there, although there should be about 400. Presumably, even without bans, it wouldn’t be exactly 400 different players, as some participated in clear runs with different groups. Still, there are many players who are suddenly missing from the rankings.
The timing was particularly cruel, as many of the banned cheaters probably felt secure with their position in the rankings. Less than 24 hours before the end of Season 9, Blizzard brought out the ban hammer and shattered the dreams of these players.
Not quite fair yet
Unfortunately, the ban is not satisfactory for many parts of the community. There are still people in the rankings who, although they did not cheat themselves, achieved these high ranks in the leaderboard because of other cheaters. That these players are now allowed to keep their top positions shows that the system against cheaters is still not fully developed.
Nevertheless, this step is important for the Diablo 3 players and shows that Blizzard is concerned about the issues.
