In Diablo 3 the start of Season 25 and Patch 2.7.2 is coming up. The season theme with the soul shards sounds really exciting. In the patch notes for Update 2.7.2, Blizzard shows what changes are coming for you and how the stones work.
What’s new? On the Diablo 3 blog, the team has now released the early patch notes for Update 2.7.2, which will form the basis for Season 25. The patch notes also address the new season theme that involves the soul shards. In total, there will be seven of them, and you can carry two at the same time.
Here we show you the season theme for Season 25 in Diablo 3 and more patch notes.
Season Theme of Season 25 – Soul Shards
What is the theme? In the blog post, the Diablo team writes that Season 25 introduces a new type of socketable item into the game, the Soul Shards. You can find seven of these Soul Shards with your characters, based on seven demon lords of the “Prime Evils”.
- One of the three Prime Evil Shards can be socketed into helmets
- One of the four Lesser Evil Shards can be socketed into weapons
- Each of the stones can be upgraded three times, and there are season-exclusive items called “Hellforge Ember”
Where do the stones drop? The soul shards can drop anywhere, but the chance is increased with bosses. You cannot trade the stones with other players. However, you can salvage them at the blacksmith.
At the same time, you can only carry one Prime Evil Shard and one Lesser Evil Shard.
Are the soul shards available outside of the season? No. This content is exclusive to seasonal characters in Season 25.
What do the stones do? The exact powers have not yet been revealed. The demons of the “Prime Evils” are Diablo, Mephisto, Baal, Andariel, Duriel, Belial, and Azmodan. Accordingly, the bonuses that the stones unleash on your characters can be quite powerful.

Patch Notes for 2.7.2 in Diablo 3
This is what Blizzard says: Some items will be changed in Patch 2.7.2 and will receive buffs or nerfs. We show you an overview of what changes:
- Merciless: “While ‘Wrath of the Berserker’ and ‘Call of the Ancients’ are active at the same time, the damage of ‘Hammer of the Ancients’ increases. (Barbarian only) [600 – 800%, before 200 – 250%]”
- Shukranis Triumph: “Spirit Walk lasts until you hit three times or an elite opponent is within 20 yards of you. Attacks in Spirit Walk form deal 75 – 100% more damage.”
- Lakumba’s Ornament: “Reduces all damage taken by 60% while you have at least [1-3] stacks of Soul Harvest. An additional 2% for each stack of Soul Harvest.”
- The Spider Queen’s Grasp: Your Corpse Spiders deal 600 – 800% more damage and leave a web upon hitting, slowing enemies by 80%.
- Brood of Araneae: Corpse Spiders deal 75 – 100% more damage and each Spider Bite causes the target to take 1% more damage from Corpse Spiders for five seconds.
Set Changes:
- Spirit of Arachyr
- 2-piece bonus: Corpse Spiders now spawn with health and attack twice as fast.
- 4-piece bonus: Summons a Spider Queen to your side. She leaves webs that last 15 seconds and slow enemies down. You take 75% less damage while in the web. The Spider Queen moves to where you cast Corpse Spiders.
- Marauder’s Gear
- 4-piece bonus: Turrets deal 400% more damage and cast ‘Elemental Arrow’, ‘Chakram’, ‘Impale’, ‘Multishot’, and ‘Split Arrow’ at the same time as you and also use your hatred spenders.
- 6-piece bonus: Your primary skills ‘Elemental Arrow’, ‘Chakram’, ‘Impale’, ‘Multishot’, ‘Split Arrow’, Companions, and ‘Vengeance’ deal 12,000% more damage for each active turret.
- The Shadow’s Mantle
- 6-piece bonus: ‘Impale’ deals 75,000% more weapon damage to the first enemy hit and 25,000% more damage to subsequent targets.
- Rathma’s Skull
- 6-piece bonus: Each active permanent minion increases the damage of ‘Army of the Dead’ by 1750%, up to a maximum of 31,500%.
- Firebird’s Plume
- 2-piece bonus: ‘Disintegrate’ ignites enemies, causing them to take 1500% weapon damage per second until they die. If you die, a meteor falls from the sky that resurrects you. This effect has a cooldown of 60 seconds.
- 6-piece bonus: You deal 2500% more damage as long as a target is ignited. When you hit an ignited enemy with a non-channelled fire spell, it deals burning damage multiplied by the stacks of ‘Burning’.
