In Blizzard’s hack and slash Diablo 3, a new zone called Grey Depth Island will soon be coming. It is said to drive players mad.
A video now provides a glimpse of Grey Depth Island, the new zone that comes with patch 2.4. The fresh patch is expected by the end of 2015 or the beginning of the new year.
Once, there was said to be a great empire on the island. But today, only ruins remain. Anyone who set out to search for the fallen high culture met their demise, whether it be to madness, death, or both.
The theme of Grey Depth Island is the madness that grips the hero. It is not a pretty isle with palm trees, volleyballs, and campfires, but a rugged coast where countless ships have perished. Death and decay hang in the air – and should the lonely wanderer not succumb to madness, the beasts may tear him apart.
Alone at Night in the Woods
According to Blizzard, the model for Grey Depth Island is a region in the northwest of the USA, where one of the developers grew up, revealing that more shipwrecks lie in the “Graveyard of the Pacific,” a coastal section between Oregon and Canadian Vancouver than anywhere else.
For the island’s atmosphere, Blizzard chose a simple thought: Alone in the woods at night. To fittingly integrate the zone into the world of Diablo 3, it has been placed far off the beaten path: A trip to the zone is meant to become a horror story. One finds diaries of a traveler who walked the path long ago that one now treads oneself. On the journey, one is to uncover the secrets of the zone, diving deeper into its mysteries with each page of the diary.
Or one can simply run through the zone, complete their loot run, and then go on their way, Blizzard pragmatically explains.
We have explored which demonic forces might play a role on Grey Depth Island in this article.
