These are the best classes and builds to play solo or in groups in Season 9 of Diablo 3.
At regular intervals, new seasons are introduced in Diablo 3. Your progress is reset, and you start with a new seasonal character at level zero. Because there are often balancing changes before the seasons, different classes are at the top of the leaderboards each time.
Which class is the best depends on your playstyle. Do you play solo or in a group? If you play in a group: do you like dealing damage, or do you enjoy supporting your team more? We present to you the classes that are best suited for different playstyles.
What is the best solo class in Season 9 of Diablo 3?
If you plan to complete Greater Nephalem Rifts alone in Season 9 without the help of other players, the Wizard and the Crusader are particularly recommended as solo classes.
As a Wizard, you get the Firebird set, which is currently very strong. If you play a Crusader, you receive the Invoker set from Haedrig’s gift. This Thorn set is similarly strong for the Crusader as the Firebird set is for the Wizard. Especially in solo play, the Crusader has good chances with this set.
With both classes, you will not have any problems from the start of the season and can likely easily complete the goals of the season journey.
Best classes for 2-player groups
If you play in the new season together with a friend, there are good class combinations that support each other. A good combination is a Support Monk paired with a Witch Doctor who plays Arachyr with Firebats. While the Witch Doctor deals damage, the Support Monk ensures that the Doctor stays alive.
Another strong combination is a Support Barbarian paired with a Wizard. In this setup, the Wizard uses the Firebird set with Archon abilities. The Wizard requires less help to stay alive. In this combination, the Barbarian is mainly responsible for grouping enemies together so that the Wizard can hit as many enemies as possible with area damage.
These two combinations will likely remain strong throughout Season 9 in Diablo III. The classes simply harmonize well with each other – like eggs and bacon… or like anything else and bacon.
Season 9 – All Information about the Start in Overview
Best classes for 3-player groups
Together with two other players, you can assemble a strong group. During patch 2.4.3 on the PTR servers, one particular setup proved especially successful and dominated the leaderboards: Support Barbarian + Support Monk + Witch Doctor with Firebat build.
While the Barbarian groups enemies together, the Monk can keep the Witch Doctor alive. Both support classes are particularly important in most group setups.
Best classes for 4-player groups
If you play in a group of 4 players, you should consider whether you prefer to deal damage or play as a supporter.
DPS: If you feel more comfortable dealing a lot of damage as a DPS character, then the Witch Doctor is a good choice. With the buff from the Arachyr set, you now deal significantly more damage. The 6-piece set bonus since patch 2.4.3:
- The damage caused by your creatures’ abilities is increased by 2400 %. The abilities of the creatures are Corpse Spiders, Frog Swarm, Fire Bats, Locust Swarm, Hex, and Piranhas.
If you have played enough Witch Doctor and want to try another DPS class in your 4-player group, the Wizard is also a good choice. As a Wizard, you receive the Firebird set from Haedrig’s gift. With this set, you should be able to reach level 95 and above in Greater Rifts.
An alternative to Witch Doctor and Wizard is the Monk. According to current data, the Witch Doctor is the safest choice, closely followed by the Wizard. Since the meta only develops throughout the season, these are just speculations at this point.
Supporter: If you do not feel comfortable in the role of damage dealer and prefer to support your group members, you can do this with the Monk and the Barbarian. For these classes, there are builds where they do not deal much damage but help their team with buffs or other abilities that group enemies.
While the zBarb is well-suited for grouping monsters together, a zMonk keeps your DPS characters alive with abilities like Inner Sanctuary. The “z” before Barbarian and Monk means that these classes do not deal (Zero) damage but rather take on a tank/support role.
Keep in mind that no meta is established at this point. The best classes can change throughout the season. In general, you should play classes that you enjoy yourself.
On the next pages, we will show you various builds and playstyles of the Barbarian, Witch Doctors, Monks, Wizards, and Crusaders. We start with the Support Barbarian.
