The developers of Dune: Awakening want to talk about server merges, but the players have a clear warning for them.
What are the server merges about? After the strong start of Dune: Awakening, player numbers have since dropped significantly. Even the free weekend and the new expansion “Chapter 2” could only slow down the player decline slightly.
The player decline also has direct effects on the remaining players. They have been complaining for weeks about empty servers where hardly any players can be found except for themselves.
The developers have recognized the problem and have been preparing for server merges for some time. They now announced on Discord that they want to talk about them in the next livestream. However, even before the livestream was properly announced, the fans already had a clear warning for the developers.
Here you can watch the trailer for the “Chapter 2” expansion of Dune: Awakening:
It’s all about the bases
What does the warning say? The players of Dune: Awakening are attached to their bases. This is shown by a new Reddit post warning the developers to find a way to preserve the players’ bases just as they are during the server merges.
This does not only refer to the mere copying of the base or the items, but also to the location where it was built. Many players have built very creative bases around natural rock formations that would not function without the nature.
For example, Reddit user Super-Yesterday9727 writes: “I put so much effort into my cool base; I would probably quit if it got destroyed.”
RobbLCayman, on the other hand, says on Reddit: “My base isn’t even that cool, but because of the storage full of items and the storage arrangements, I would never rebuild and reorganize everything, even if all materials and content were summarized in rewards or some kind of bank.”
Therefore, the players clearly state: server merges only if the bases are preserved. However, this poses a big problem for the developers.
What is the problem? Currently, there are more than a dozen game servers just for the European continent. Each server also has 25 worlds where there are bases that lie on rock formations or other locations. In total, there are thus thousands of individual bases that can interfere with each other.
Hence, the developers cannot simply merge 2 game servers into a new one without finding a solution for the bases, which cannot simply be moved or placed elsewhere. A major challenge for which the developers have not yet provided a solution.
That the players are attached to their bases is not unusual, as they regularly pay taxes for their buildings. The power must also always be kept running. If players were to lose their base during a merge, it would likely be the end for them in Dune: Awakening.
Therefore, some players also suggest simply merging the individual sietches and thus the deep deserts. While this would not change anything in the Haggah Basin, players would meet more new people in the endgame again.
