Through multiclassing, you can combine multiple classes in Baldur’s Gate 3. This feature is aimed more at advanced players. Larian, the creators of the game, have now shown which combinations are the most popular and say: some of the unpopular options are actually really strong. Is that true?
What kinds of builds are there?
- If you want to become really strong in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to combine classes. Only then will you really get the absolute maximum out of your character.
- “Multiclassing” is a double-edged sword: you can either become really strong or really weak.
- In a blog post, Larian has now shown which class combinations are the most popular and which may need more love (via Playstation.com).
These are the combinations: The developers show that according to their data, the combination of ranger and rogue is the most popular, closely followed by the fighter-barbarian. Both combos mainly rely on strong attacks without too many frills. Less popular are:
- Paladin + Warlock
- Rogue + Monk
- Cleric + Wizard
- Druid + Barbarian
- Wizard + Warlock
The combinations are quite logical based on their pure stats, as they usually share at least one important attribute. However, they often have a disadvantage: they are either difficult to play or just don’t fit well together from a class fantasy perspective. Nevertheless, Larian swears that the builds are really good.
“Underrated builds”: Are they really good?
In general, we can say: Yes, indeed, the builds are strong combinations. We even recommend barbarian and druid in our best multiclass options for Baldur’s Gate 3.
Larian itself also gives an assessment of why the respective builds are supposed to be really good:
- Paladin and Warlock in Pact of the Blade: the combination is not supposed to be that strong, especially since it only unfolds its potential late. The advantage is that you get as many attacks per round as a fighter, but cause magical damage, which bypasses many resistances.
- Rogue and Monk: Monks are themselves an unpopular and difficult to use class. However, in combination with a thieving rogue, you can unleash up to 12 attacks per round. Perfect if you don’t want anyone else to play except you.
- Cleric (Storm Domain) and Storm Wizard: this combination is among the strongest in the game. You can cause over 2,000 damage per round. Probably the build is played by so few simply because clerics are generally unpopular.
- Druid and Barbarian: You are a bear. That is angry. And beats up enemies. That’s pretty much all there is to the build. You can take a lot of damage and tear everything apart. Little depth, but very entertaining.
- Wizard and Warlock: the idea behind this build is that you can use the Warlock’s pact spells more often due to the wizard’s metamagic. Essentially the magical version of a barbarian. Bonus: Horrifying Ray is the strongest cantrip in the game.
For beginners, multiclassing is generally less advisable, but if you are already planning your second or third playthrough and want to try something new, these builds are excellent. With Lazarus, you can always reskill otherwise.
