In Destiny we take a look at an “Iron Lord” for whom there is no artifact: Efrideet. Why is that?
With “The Rise of Iron”, eight artifacts with unique abilities come into play. These are associated with the deceased Iron Lords, in whose honor the Iron Banner is held monthly. However, there is a discrepancy: There are actually nine Iron Lords in total, known to us by various weapon names and who should possess artifacts. What’s going on?
The mysterious missing “Iron Lord” is Efrideet – especially known for the legendary, Iron Banner-exclusive sniper rifle Efrideet’s Spear. The Lords who possess an artifact are: Radegast, Perun, Jolder, Silimar, Felwinter, Gheleon, Skorri, and Timur.
Two Iron Lords have no artifact
Could Bungie have made a mistake and simply forgotten Efrideet? No, that’s not the case, as the 16-page paid magazine on “Rise of Iron” from Gameinformer reveals. It states the following:

In the middle, it states that only the eight “Iron Lords” who died in the fight against SIVA received their own artifact. However, there were actually ten Iron Lords. The most famous of the two Lords without an artifact is Lord Saladin. He regularly held the Iron Banner to prepare you for the threat of a SIVA resurrection.
However, the sniper Efrideet may have survived, as she has neither an artifact nor a statue in the mausoleum. Bungie will soon unveil the mystery of her disappearance, according to Gameinformer.
So is Lord Saladin really not the last Iron Lord still alive? Efrideet could have survived as well. But where is she? What happened to her?
Where is Efrideet, the 9th Iron Lord?
If we sift through the items that exist from Efrideet, we find not only a sniper rifle but also an already existing artifact: Efrideet’s Eye:
Here, Efrideet is described as an extremely skilled marksman: “Every time she pulled the trigger, an enemy of the City died.” Additionally, it is an artifact for the Hunter – Efrideet was also a Hunter.
The PlayStation-exclusive Hunter helmet Iron Camelot Shade Helm also gives a hint about Efrideet: “Forged in memory of Efrideet, she who never missed her target.”
Efrideet seems to have been a truly formidable marksman (or at least was). Before the “House of Wolves” DLC, there was also a Coat of Efrideet, which is no longer available.
From now on, we enter the realm of pure speculation. The YouTuber My Name is Byf makes three assumptions about what might have happened to Efrideet:
- SIVA needs a Ghost to control the technology. Perhaps it isn’t the Fallen behind it at all, but Efrideet. Has she switched sides, from the “good” Iron Lords to the “evil” enemy in “Rise of Iron”?
- She didn’t die in the fight against SIVA but in another way. Therefore, she has no artifact, but has still passed away.
- She is still out there. In the story of “Rise of Iron”, we encounter her, she is in great danger, Lord Saladin sacrifices himself for her, and Efrideet takes over the role as the contact person for the “new” Iron Banner. The YouTuber was quite creative with this idea.
Is Efrideet the mysterious Exo?
Among the comments and on reddit, there is another speculation that numerous Guardians are excited about. What if we have all already encountered Efrideet?
Is she perhaps “the Stranger”, who encountered us in the story of the main game? The one who has no time to explain why she cannot explain anything? In the Grimoire, there are a few records from the mysterious Exo:
Some believe she is the last of a very old Exo battalion, fighting a long-forgotten war. Others dismiss her as a manifestation brought forth by Vex technology. However, the tales of how her appearance saved lives or averted unspeakable disasters have proven persistent.
The community often points out that both are Exos, both Hunters, and both should not be forged in the light. In any case, it would be quite shocking if this character were to return and advance the story.
