For Free2Play players, Destiny: Rising can currently feel very frustrating and tedious. The developers want to change that in the coming year.
What do the developers plan? A major update for Destiny: Rising is set to be released in January 2026. This is to include content for the main story, fresh activities, a tower defense mode, and a new pinnacle energy system.
In the announcement on playdestinyrising.com, the developers also address current criticism from the community that farming for resources and upgrade materials is too laborious and lengthy if you don’t invest money in the mobile version of Destiny.
More Free2Play fun starting 2026
What will change? For the upcoming Season 3, the developers plan a free pinnacle energy drop event. This event is to be active throughout the entire season and grant players free energy every day.
Furthermore, they want to significantly improve the rewards for Free2Play players and reduce the currently too strong restrictions on accessing content. Especially modes like “Calamity Ops” and “Bounties” currently do not offer enough rewards.
The goal of the changes in January: Those who do not invest money in Destiny: Rising should still have the opportunity to keep up with the new releases.
We firmly believe that active players are the foundation of a healthy gaming ecosystem, and we do not want monetization to become a barrier that prevents players from experiencing the game’s content.

A patch is already addressing the wound inflicted by the “The Dawning” event taking place in December.
