If a fish is on the line, you need to press the button as quickly as possible. This starts the first mini-game where you must keep the fish’s symbol within the oval display. If you manage to do this long enough, the fish will be reeled in. Catching rarer fish makes the mini-game more difficult.
If you have exotic fish on the line, you will need to play another mini-game where you must steadily reduce the endurance of your catch until your fish is exhausted.
Fishing rods and bait: Where to find them
Where can I find new fishing rods? Your first fishing rod will eventually break, and you’ll need a new one. To obtain one, you need to visit Pandora-7, the merchant for fishing items. The higher you rank up with her, the better fishing rods and items she’ll offer you over time as a fisher. So be diligent and increase her rank.
How do I earn bait? What applies to fishing rods also applies to bait. You can purchase it from Pandora-7. Depending on how rare your bait is, the higher the chance you’ll hook a rare fish.
