In Destiny, a Guardian showcases a super exploit that could have devastating effects on game balance.
In the latest letter to the community, Bungie proudly announced that they had fixed a massive, previously secret bug, before it could spread within the community. This exploit seemingly allowed a Guardian class to obtain “infinite super”. Community Manager DeeJ thanked the players who pointed it out on non-public channels before the bug became public.
However, a new bug has appeared in the reddit forum that fits Bungie’s description. Allegedly, this one also works after the latest hotfix.
If the Golden Gun of the Hunter Lasts Forever
The Guardian Wolfgang Jacobson has documented the quirky super exploit on video and recently presented it in the reddit forum. This bug causes the Golden Gun, the super of the Gunslinger subclass of the Hunter, to last indefinitely: It remains constantly active.
It is also possible to switch subclasses freely while holding the Golden Gun. This way, he can choose the Nightstalker subclass and use Shadowshot. The Hunter can also use other abilities, such as grenades or smoke bombs, despite having the Golden Gun active.
However, the shots with the Gunslinger super are limited: You can’t shoot more than three times with this glitch; with the exotic Hunter helmet Achlyophagen Symbiont, it is a maximum of four.
Since this glitch works in both PvE and PvP, it could significantly disrupt balance. After all, it is not intended for the Hunter to use the Golden Gun and Shadowshot simultaneously.
The resourceful Guardian states that he has no intention of making this exploit available to the community, therefore he would not be publishing a tutorial. He has also tried to contact Bungie but has not received a response yet. It is in the interest of the community and the Crucible that he keeps this confidential.
The following video shows the bug in action. As the user initially did not plan to upload the video, it has become somewhat lengthy in parts:
The “highlights” can be found under these timestamps::
0:20: Shadowshot during active Golden Gun
2:21: Switch to Blade Dancer subclass
2:45: Invisibility with active Golden Gun
5:36: One shot with the Golden Gun is fired after being active for over 5 minutes.
6:36: Blade Dancer super is used, interrupting the Golden Gun.
So far, he has discovered four things that can interrupt this exploit: boarding a Sparrow, using the Blade Dancer super or the Gunslinger super (again), and dying.
How Bungie will react to this exploit remains to be seen. If the use of it becomes known, we will have to be even more cautious of Hunters in the future – until the issue is resolved.
