In Destiny we take a closer look at the ornaments. These are introduced with “The Dawning of the Iron Lords” and affect the outward appearance of certain weapons and gear pieces.
With the April update, Chromatin was introduced in Destiny. With these items you can spruce up certain weapons and armor and make them shine. In RoI, an evolution of the Chromatin system comes: The ornaments.
The ornaments are also items that bring about cosmetic changes. However, compared to Chromatin, they go a step further and even affect the “geometry” of weapons and armor.
More individuality thanks to 22 ornaments
Bungie itself has not publicly spoken much about these new customization options. But the YouTube Arekkz Gaming was able to gather some information at Gamescom 2016, which he now presents together with concept art in the video:
At the launch of RoI, there are to be a total of 22 ornaments available that can affect the appearance of certain exotic weapons and gear sets.
Of the armor pieces, only three of the new sets support the ornaments: The Raid “SIVA” set, the “Trials of Osiris” set, and the “Iron Lord” set. There are specific slots for the ornaments:
The ornaments have the following effect:
“Iron Lord” set: Flames
“Trials of Osiris: Hologram
The raid gear begins to shine and glow:
Note: The shaders affect the color of the armor pieces, but not the color of the ornament effects. It is therefore not possible to have, for example, blue or green flames on the “Iron Lord” armor.
Currently, it can only be speculated how these armor ornaments will be counted towards the total of 22 ornaments. Either each ornament of the individual armor pieces (helmet, gloves, chest, leg armor, (class item?)) is counted, or all ornaments for an entire gear set are counted as one. If the latter option is true, there will be 19 ornaments left for exotic weapons.
So far, it is known that the Monte Carlo, Falkenmond, Khvostov 7G-0X, and Nemesis Star each have two ornaments. Which other weapons can be styled is currently unknown.
The ornaments will be obtainable in various ways. For example, they may be found in “Radiant Tresures,” which can either be played or purchased with real money in Eververse.
Some of them are said to only be obtainable as rewards for impressive achievements, such as “flawless” Trials runs. Therefore, not many Guardians will likely be able to walk around in the fancy hologram trials look.
For which weapons would you like to see cool ornaments?
