In Destiny, we take a closer look at the exotic gauntlets “Ophidian Aspect.”
The Ophidian Aspect is one of the 7 exotic armor pieces that were already known from “The Taken King”, but only made their way into the game with “The Rise of Iron.” It is a Warlock gauntlet designed specifically for the Voidwalker.
Locations of Ophidian Aspect
If you want to get these gauntlets, you can do so in the following ways:
- Wrath of the Machine: They can be found in the new raid.
- King’s Fall: You can also be rewarded with them in the old Oryx raid.
- Xur: The Agent of the Nine may sometimes bring the Ophidian Aspect.
- Nightfall Strike: In the Nightfall, the gauntlets drop as a reward with some luck.
- Trials of Osiris: You can also play this PvP activity to obtain the Ophidian Aspect.

What makes Ophidian Aspect special in Destiny
The Ophidian Aspect is intended for the “Voidwalker” focus of the Warlock, as the exotic perk enhances its melee ability. Here are the perk choices:
- Viper Totem: Improved energy drain and weapons are readied and reloaded quickly.
You have the choice between:
- Snap Discharge: Increases the speed of melee attacks.
- Impact Induction: Bonus grenade energy on melee hits.
You also have the choice between:
- Energy Projection: Increases grenade throw distance.
- Movement Transfer: Gain bonus melee energy on grenade hits.
Additionally, strength and either discipline or intellect are increased.
You can see that the perks are focused on melee and grenades. But what exactly does the exotic perk “Viper Totem” do?
“Energy Drain” is the melee attack of the Voidwalker. With this, you siphon energy from enemies and reduce the cooldown of the grenade. The Ophidian Aspect extends this energy drain effect by about 2 seconds, as shown on the left side of your screen when activated. You also gain a bit more grenade energy.
But beware: The focus node “The Hunger” also extends the duration of the energy drain by about 2 seconds. This effect does not stack, so you should choose a different focus node in this column.
The second bonus of “Viper Totem” is also useful: All weapons are readied and reloaded quickly. In both PvE and PvP, this is a major advantage, especially with an offensive playstyle. The time saved can mean the difference between life and death. It also benefits Sunsinger and Stormcaller.
Conclusion: A strong exotic item in both PvE and PvP, which can only reach its full potential with the Voidwalker. If Xur brings it soon, you won’t go wrong buying it.
