In Destiny, you can already reach light levels beyond 385. This trick makes it particularly effective.
Since the launch of “Rise of Iron”, the maximum light level is 385 – actually. Because shortly after the release, the first Guardians reported that they could get items over 385. Even 388 and 389 are possible. But how can one reach such spheres of light?
The probably most recommendable method is: Wait. Because on October 18, 2016, the Heroic Mode of “Wrath of the Machine” starts. From then on, it’s also intended by Bungie that you’ll go over light level 385. With the launch of the new raid on heroic difficulty, the maximum rises to a clean 400.
However, if you want to exceed 385 now – also to be well prepared for the raid – you can take the following into account.
383 is the magic number
If your Guardian is already at 384, 385, or even 386, almost only items with 384 and 385 drop. However, if you reduce your character’s light level to 383 and open a reward package, you have the chance for items with light levels of 386 and 387!
On reddit, there are several user reports confirming this observation. Once your Guardian exceeds the light level of 385, only items with a maximum of 385 light come from reward packages and as raid drops.
But how does one obtain items with light levels 388 and 389? According to some Guardians, you need to be at light levels 386 or 387 and then play the Nightfall strike and the Trials of Osiris.
Additionally, you can also embark on the long hunt for the outbreak primus, the exotic raid pulse rifle. This comes with a light level of 390.
