In the MMO shooter Destiny, you shouldn’t just dismantle your blue engrams. There might be more in them than you might expect.
Loot! Fresh, juicy, delicious loot! Every Guardian is happy when the nasty enemy drops pretty items, which usually come in the form of engrams. Since you, as a Guardian, can do little with these engrams, you quickly bring them to the Cryptarch for him to decode them for you. Only then will you see if the loot is even useful.
Engrams come in different qualities, such as rare engrams (blue), legendary engrams (purple), and the highly coveted exotic engrams (yellow). The rule is actually: The item that emerges from the engram can have one of two possible quality levels: the quality of the engram or one quality level above. An example: From a legendary engram, you can get a legendary or an exotic item.
However, with “Rise of Iron,” changes occurred that many Guardians have already experienced firsthand.
Exotic Items from Blue Engrams
First: Since the “The Rise of Iron” expansion, all blue items that come from a blue engram are capped at a light level of 340. This is the new maximum limit.
Another change is: With a very low probability, items can emerge from blue engrams that are even two quality levels higher: Exotics. How can this be?
There is no answer to this question so far. Bungie has not commented on it yet – nor whether it will be fixed or if it will remain as is. Below, we embed a “proof video” that confirms the numerous user reports online:
A noticeable change with the engrams is that in all possible PvE activities, you are inundated with green and blue engrams! Usually, space in your inventory runs out, so you can pick up some of the blue engrams at the post office. However, dismantling the blue engrams just like that is not recommended: After all, an exotic item could be contained.
Unfortunately, there are no promising rituals that can increase the chance of getting more Exotics from the rare engrams.
