In Destiny, we provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to efficiently improve your light level in “Rise of Iron”.
With the “The Rise of Iron” expansion, the maximum light level has been raised. Currently, 385 is the maximum set by Bungie that Guardians can achieve. Once the “Wrath of the Machine” raid is unlocked on heroic mode, you can even climb to 400. However, there is no specific date for this yet.
Therefore, in this guide, we show you how to efficiently reach light level 385. We divide this path into 4 steps.
1. Reach Light Level 340
Before RoI, the maximum was 335, so for most Guardians, the 340 barrier is not far away. Generally, this is easy and quick to achieve. We mention three simple methods:
- Complete the story missions. Then you should be close to 340.
- Do normal strikes, which grant rewards up to light level 340.
- And the best source: Rare (blue) engrams. Have these decrypted by the Cryptarch. This way, you will receive items up to 340.
2. Reach Light Level 350
To quickly reach 350, there are numerous options available to you: namely, all vendors who sell items for Legendary Marks. These objects are at light level 350. Xur also sells his exotic goods with 350 light. The Artifacts at Tyra Karn are also 350.
Up to light level 350 the Legendary engrams are really effective. With these, you can acquire many items that are above your current light level. According to Bungie, after 350, the progress with Legendary engrams slows down significantly.
3. Reach Light Level 365
And with that, we are already on the way to reaching light level 365:
- Continue to have the Cryptarch decrypt Legendary engrams. You will get fewer items with higher light level this way, so the progress goes slower, but they can still grant items up to 365 light.
- Variks calls! The Prison of Elders challenge is still worthwhile for this step. If you fill the Elder Seal, you will receive weapons and armor pieces up to 365.
- The most efficient way for this is probably: Complete heroic SIVA crisis strikes. In these strikes, you get loot up to light 365. Currently, the Omnigul farming method is proclaimed as the most efficient way to level up. This method has already been used for the Grip of Malok and largely depends on the weekly modifiers.
4. Reach Light Level 385
So, what options are left to achieve the current maximum light level?
- Exotic engrams: Rare and Legendary engrams have become obsolete. Now only exotic engrams can help you reach 385.
- Strike-specific loot: With Skeleton Keys and the Strike Loot, you can also reach the current maximum.
- Reward packages from factions: It’s also worthwhile to increase your reputation with the factions. With each rank increase, you can choose a reward package (weapon, armor, chroma) that delivers items up to 385.
- Archon Forge: The new PvE arena, which is a mix between the Dreadnaught and Prison of Elders, offers items up to 385 light.
- Wrath of the Machine: Finally, you can also reach the maximum light level through the new raid.
General Tips
What should you keep in mind when leveling up?
- You always make only small steps in the light level progression system. Compared to TTK, this system has not changed. You do not need to readjust.
- Thus: Before having engrams decrypted, equip your best gear! This gives you the chance to receive higher quality items.
- Many of the options mentioned above, such as decrypting exotic engrams or playing the Archon Forge, can also be done in earlier steps. However, some activities, such as raiding, can only be started and mastered from certain light levels.
- The PvP area has not yet been included in the upper list. However, you can assume that you can also reach 385 with the Iron Banner event and the Trials as soon as they become available.
- Always take the available bounties to increase your reputation and collect the reward packages. Multitasking!
- Your first public event of the day gives you Legendary Marks and engrams – per character.
- Use Three of Coins diligently. Exotic engrams help you from “the very bottom” up to 385. Learn how to “properly” use Three of Coins here.
Note: Some Guardians already report that they have been able to exceed 385. Whether Bungie will do anything about it is not yet known.
