In the MMO shooter Destiny, data miners have found hints that Bungie wants to expand the current shader system. This could lead to shaders for the Guardians’ ships and their Sparrows – perhaps with the expansion The Dark Below or House of Wolves. Even the armor itself could become more varied.
53 Shades of Destiny
“Shaders” are essentially the armor colors in Destiny, similar to what you find in other MMOs. They are used to make your Guardian stand out from the crowd. Some shaders are rare. If you see someone completely in white, you’re not looking at an innocent bride, but at a Guardian who has completed the raid “The Vault of Glass” at least on normal difficulty. Recently, we presented a previewer where players can see how the 53 different shaders would look on their own Guardian in Destiny.
Data miners made an interesting find
Yesterday, data miners were out and have searched the destinydb code for new hints regarding what Bungie might soon be planning for Destiny. And they found something. They discovered three items that suggest Bungie wants to tweak the shader system:
- There is an item that could enable more complex shaders on the armor. Perhaps this indicates that Guardians will soon be able to mix different shaders to create their own individual look, so to say, their own color cocktail.
- A second item indicates the possibility of customizing the Sparrows, the hover bikes, with their own shader in Destiny.
- And the last item revolves around the Jump Ships of the Guardians, which can currently be seen in orbit. A color offensive is also in store for them.
Over 30 new legendary ships with The Dark Below and House of Wolves?
At Planetdestiny, the data miners speculate that these shaders might come as early as December for the expansion “The Dark Below” or with the beginning of next year “House of Wolves”. So far, there has been no comment from Bungie on whether this will actually happen. It has become like in World of Warcraft, data miners look at what is in the code and draw conclusions about what Bungie plans or might plan.
In addition to these shader items, a series of new skins for Jump Ships have been found. Also, PlanetDestiny posted a table with over 30 legendary ships that are supposedly coming to Destiny with the expansions The Dark Below/House of Wolves.
