The prime example of a strong DLC: The Taken King
Darkness is Lurking and The House of Wolves were both DLCs that could not convince. Little content and the story was told weakly. The hope that something good would come from Bungie faded until the third DLC was announced: The Taken King or King of the Taken.
When Oryx made his grand entrance and took out the entire fleet of the Awoken, the Guardians knew “Okay, now it gets serious.” They were right because, alongside a long and gripping story, there were many new weapons, armor, and even a class with which Guardians could expand their arsenal.
If that wasn’t enough, Bungie convinced its players with a large and dark raid where they had to defeat the then Taken big boss Oryx, but that wasn’t all. After the raid, players could embark on a lengthy quest to build the special exotic “Malicious Touch”.
It’s no wonder that The Taken King is considered one of the best DLCs that Bungie has ever put together, relating to both narrative storytelling and the content the developers could offer back then.
SIVA and the Iron Lords
Even though the last expansion of Destiny 1 could not satisfy every player, it left a lasting impression in the community. The reason for this is the mysterious SIVA and its power.
Who does not know the deformed Iron Lords who were tricked by Rasputin and then consumed and “improved” by SIVA? Only Lord Saladin could save himself, and to this day he bears witness to the cruel deeds that an AI can perform when entrusted with the power of nanotechnology.
The Iron Lords were not perfect, but they showed that Bungie can also come up with other captivating stories that are multilayered and perfectly fit the loot shooter, in addition to its light and dark saga .
