In Destiny you can join multiple factions. As you gain their favor, there are stylish rewards. With these tips, you can increase your reputation a bit faster.
Our friend Nexxoss Gaming explains in a new video to the Destiny community how Guardians can properly level up their faction reputation with Dead Orbit, New Monarchy, and the Future War Cult. We summarize the key information.
What you should know in advance:
- First, you choose a faction by heading to a representative in the Tower. Here you have the choice between New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, and Future War Cult.
- You always earn the respective faction reputation by gaining Vanguard and Crucible reputation. A quick way to do this is by completing bounties.
- Once you reach a certain reputation rank, you can acquire faction-specific weapons and gear. Even at rank 1, cool items await your pickup.
- As most already know, class items can also lead to reputation boosts, as can be seen in the following image:
So far, so good. Nothing particularly surprising yet. But now Nexxoss comes along and explains some “secret ways” to make leveling up reputation more efficient. This should be done with Glimmer, Legendary Marks, Strange Coins, Light Particles, and all sorts of materials.
Reputation through Material Exchange
In the video, Nexxoss initially explains through the example of the New Monarchy, how you can increase your standing with this faction through material exchange. Right above the rewards that the faction offers, there is the tab “Material Exchange”. In the first example, a “Wormspore donation” allows you to increase your reputation by donating “Wormspores to replenish the group reserves”. The New Monarchy wants to see 25 Wormspores for this.
You can farm Wormspores quite easily, perhaps even unconsciously. Some Ghost Shells have the property that when looting engrams on the Dreadnaught, you have a chance for more Wormspores. This is called the “Wormspore Extractor”.
Especially in Raids or Strikes, you can efficiently gather this green stuff. The rune challenges also allow engrams (and Wormspores) to drop frequently. This tip can be applied to all other materials.
However, this doesn’t give a lot of reputation, specifically only +50. Each week, the materials that factions require change – the latest information can be found on our website, Mein MMO, in our article about the weekly reset on Tuesday.
So if you currently have a shortage of Wormspores but an abundance of spin metal, your chance will come.
Earn Reputation with Legendary Marks
At the Vanguard Quartermaster, you can purchase all the materials your heart desires with Legendary Marks – or rather, your faction. 20 of them cost 10 Legendary Marks each. If you want to convert these marks into reputation, first buy the required materials and donate them to the faction to raise your standing.
Earn Reputation with Heavy Ammo in Destiny
If you have plenty of Strange Coins and the next Xur visit is imminent, then stock up on Heavy Ammo Syntheses! Your faction can never have enough of those. Each synthesis yields +25 reputation in the “Heavy Ammo Donation”. That’s not a lot, but better than nothing if you want to level up quickly. By the way, Xur offers three syntheses for one Strange Coin.
According to Nexxoss, the Heavy Ammo donation is more worthwhile than donating Special Ammo, “simply based on the costs”. For Special Ammo, you have to give up four pieces to gain standing.
By the way, you can find Heavy Ammo at the Gunsmith for Glimmer and from Eris Morn. The latter desires the Black Wax Idol for that. Whatever she plans to do with it…
Variks provides Heavy Ammo if you give him some Glimmer and Ether Seed. In terms of Glimmer, Variks is cheaper than the Gunsmith, but you have to give up some Ether Seed.
Increase Reputation with Glimmer in Destiny
If you have enough weapon parts, you can donate these as well. In this case, it’s worth visiting the Gunsmith first. Because you can acquire weapon parts fairly cheaply from Banshee. According to Nexxoss, this is a very profitable way to increase reputation with Glimmer. Weapon parts are significantly cheaper than, for example, ammo syntheses, which you can also buy from the Gunsmith. However, weapon parts provide more value.
By the way: You can also donate armor pieces to the faction with open arms. You farm these, for example, from the rune challenges, as numerous engrams drop there. Surely there’s at least one armor piece among them.
Increase Reputation with Light Particles
Finally, you still have the option to gain reputation through a “Light Particle donation” during Material Exchange. Here you get a whopping +100 reputation for five Light Particles. That certainly boosts your standing significantly.
With this table, you can keep track
A clever user on reddit put together a clear table from which you can see which method is the most efficient for you, which “currency” you want to farm.
He has converted everything you can use for reputation into a “Glimmer value”. For example: How much is “Ether Seed” worth in Glimmer? Heavy ammo is worth 625 Glimmer. Since you can also buy Heavy Ammo for 250 Glimmer + one Ether Seed, the user concludes that the value of Ether Seed is 375 Glimmer, because: 625 – 250 = 375. He performed similar exchange rates for all other “currencies”.And this is how you read this table: Let’s take Strange Coins as an example. These are listed as the first item in the table. It is indicated next to that you must spend the coins for Heavy Ammo. The Glimmer value of Strange Coins amounts to 1875 according to his calculations. For each coin, you get +75 reputation. To level up, you need 2500 reputation, so you need over 33 coins for this.

Ultimately, it can be said: just donate everything you have in surplus to your faction. They will thank you with the coveted reputation. Just browse through the “Material Exchange” to see what you can hand in this week. The term “Material Exchange” is a bit misleading, as not everyone would consider reputation to be material. But that’s just what it’s called.
