For the MMO shooter Destiny a concept art edition is available on the market. The prices are steep.
“Concept Art” are images, drawings, and sketches that are completed long before the first bits and bytes come into play. They later serve as a reference for designers: The concept art sets the “tone”, the “atmosphere” of a game, so that everyone involved in the project understands the aesthetics and the world better.
We on the internet often encounter this concept art as “wallpapers” or as screenshots on websites. With Destiny, there is now the opportunity to use them “for real” as wallpapers and hang them framed in the living room.
Bungie has released a twelve-part edition of concept art via the Dutch “Next-Gen Art-Dealers” Cook & Becker.
Nostalgia is probably the main reason for purchase
The art prints are limited and signed by the respective artist. The numbers range from 50 to 80. Pricing will have some people gulping: Unframed, the Giclée prints cost between 80 and 120€. In framed versions with Dipond plate and epoxy resin, it can indeed go up to 450€.
Most popular by the way: The concept art for “Vault of Glass.”
A user describes his purchase experience on reddit. He struggled with himself to spend so much money to unleash his inner geek, but he eventually overcame it when the numbers in the gallery decreased (the #7 was already gone!).
It was particularly important for him to own something that reminded him of the first raid, the good friends, and moments in the first year. It seems to be the same for some others: The Vault-of-Glass concept art is already sold out.
Despite all his struggles with his loot, the reddit user proudly displayed it in this Imgur gallery.
