A warning upfront: Since the last weapon balance patch in Destiny fusion rifles are no longer the first choice for using special weapons in the Crucible. The last patch made the projectile spread larger.
This means you have to be very close to the enemy for as many projectiles as possible to hit the target. However, this often puts you within the range of shotguns, which, unlike fusion rifles, have no wind-up time. A duel you cannot win. For this reason, almost no one uses fusion rifles in the competitive multiplayer mode anymore.
