In the MMO shooter Destiny, there is a way to multiply your Exotic Shards.
An Exotic Shard is described as “a remnant that seems to be alive.” In the endgame of Destiny, it is needed in large quantities by Guardians to infuse other items into Exotics. This allows you to increase the power level of exotic items.
To ensure you always have enough shards in your inventory, our friend Nexxoss Gaming shows you a trick on how to efficiently “farm” these items:
How to multiply your Exotic Shards in Destiny
For this method to work, you need to make some preparations beforehand. You need:
Here’s how it works:
- Fly to the Tower and walk to the Exotic Weapon Schematics. You will find these in the large room where Zavala, Ikora Rey, and Cayde-6 chat about important Vanguard matters. Here you’ll find a collection of all the exotic weapons you’ve had so far.
- Now buy exotic machine guns or rocket launchers. These cost one Exotic Shard and 2500 Glimmer each. Therefore, you need at least one shard and enough Glimmer beforehand.
- Now activate the Heavy Telemetry: This causes the development of heavy weapons to be accelerated for 30 minutes. If you don’t have any telemetry in stock, you can buy it from the weapons master for 250 Glimmer and 5 weapon parts.
- Now it’s time to use the Light Particles: Equip the heavy weapon you’ve acquired and pump it full of Light Particles. This gives the exotic weapon experience. With six Light Particles, the heavy weapon is fully leveled up.

- Now you dismantle this leveled-up weapon and receive two Exotic Shards.
So you can quickly gain multiple Exotic Shards using one Exotic Shard, Glimmer, and some Light Particles. This process can be repeated indefinitely – until you run out of Glimmer or Light Particles.
Nexxoss Gaming gives the following additional tip: Before investing the Light Particles, you can fill the other slots with items that also need to be leveled up. Here even blue items are worthwhile: When you dismantle them in their leveled-up form, they also yield Light Particles.
Note: For this method, heavy exotic weapons are recommended, as primary and special weapons require more Light Particles before they grant you two shards.
Here we introduce the Exotics that have been “new” in Destiny since the last update.
