In Destiny, a Titan specialization, the Sunbreaker, is somewhat out of balance. This is also noted by the competition from Electronic Arts.
On the English-language Facebook page of Origin, the store of Electronic Arts, an image was posted. It says: Invulnerability rarely appears as a power-up in games today. What is your favorite? Then the list: Super Mario, Doom, Pacman, and the Sunbreaker from Destiny.
The Sunbreaker in Destiny is currently considered too strong in PvP with its hammer throw; it is overpowered. And this is after fixing a significant exploit.
In the Facebook comments, readers are amused by this jab. Origin then adds, “When you see a Sunbreaker, you have two options: run or die.” Another reader comments: “That’s not true at all. It doesn’t even become invulnerable.” The response to that: “Have you tried to take one down?”
In this video, Datto, one of the most well-known Destiny YouTubers, explains the problem with the Sunbreaker. Datto says: Everything builds up to the super, and it is indeed extremely strong. And he believes it provides higher damage reduction than other supers. But since the Sunbreaker kit is too weak outside of the super, it’s somewhat acceptable. The fact that while saying this, he racks up a 25 kill streak with the Sunbreaker, does not exactly support his arguments:
This is not the first time that another company has had a little fun at Destiny’s expense. The Red Bull campaign back then called “Dying Light” into action.
What does Bungie say about the Sunbreaker?
Bungie also has a statement on the Sunbreaker. However, it is rather vague. They acknowledge fan concerns, analyze the data, and take a close look. But they stated in the last Weekly Update that it is still too early to promise anything.
In the first week of PvP, the Sunbreaker was ranked 1 among the 9 subclasses. However, only by a narrow margin.
