The MMO shooter Destiny makes quite an impact and hires a star for the audio track, but that can also bring problems if the star isn’t as motivated as in other roles.
Peter Dinklage, who is not only the hidden star of “Game of Thrones” (he plays the dwarf character and bro friend Tyrion Lannister), was recruited as the voice of the A.I. companion “Ghost” for Destiny. The fans were initially really excited about this. Dinklage gained a lot of recognition in the target audience as Tyrion Lannister. But then the fans heard Dinklage’s voice in the Alpha. The eye-rolling over some allegedly (or even actually) cheesy lines he had to read was almost audible. Especially one line (“That wizard came from the moon”) he delivered with so little enthusiasm that it actually became a small internet meme.
Bungie, the makers of Destiny, have since responded, tweaking the settings and giving the voice a bit more enthusiasm.
