The Dreadbringer is a legendary sword that has been available in Destiny since the April update. This sword is a heavy weapon with a Taken appearance, which is likely to be highly coveted by Guardians due to its design.
How to Obtain Dreadbringer in Destiny
You can obtain the sword as a reward for completing a questline. However, there are other ways to acquire the sword:
- Quest “At the Gates”: This item can be earned as a prize in a quest series. You will receive this search mission from Variks. The first mission is titled “Throne Candidate.” After completing the strike “Rotten Chalice,” the final quest mission, you return to Variks and receive the sword with an attack power of 320.
- Challenge of the Elders: You can earn the sword through this challenge.
- Variks: Variks of House Judgement sometimes carries the Dreadbringer as well.
If you dismantle the sword you receive at the end of the quest line, there are still other ways to get it back.
What Makes Dreadbringer Special in Destiny
The legendary sword is a heavy weapon and deals Void damage. The stats are identical to those of the Solar, Arc, and Void swords:

- Tempered Light: Enhances armor while wielding the sword.
- Sword Sheath: Increases sword ammunition capacity.
- Will of Light: This weapon deals bonus damage against Taken enemies.
- Sword Strike: Allows you to execute the sword attack.
- Void-Forged Cover: Enables you to use cover. Effective against Arc and Solar attacks, less effective against Void attacks.
What Can the Taken Sword Do in PvP and PvE?
In terms of numbers, this sword isn’t a new “over weapon.” The Dreadbringer has its strengths in PvE when going against Taken, or when Void-Ember is activated. With the April update bringing Taken more to the forefront, this weapon may certainly be worth considering for some Guardians.
In PvP, this sword is unlikely to set any new standards. However, it definitely gives Guardians who enjoy using swords a cool look and pairs perfectly with the new Taken armor that you can find in Sterling treasures.
