Last weekend, the German community of Destiny came together for a good cause.
A Guardian had to cope with a tragedy in real life: A rare nerve disease, Guillain-Barré syndrome, forced him into a wheelchair almost a year ago. The young man, who recently became a father, has been suffering from the disease for some time.
His Destiny clan OneTeamOneFight decided to stand by him during this difficult time. They’ve already raised 2000 euros internally to help finance a wheelchair-accessible vehicle that he can operate on his own, which would significantly ease the life of him, his wife, and their little daughter. However, the vehicle is quite expensive. The costs are estimated at 5000€. The health insurance does not cover this.
The missing 3000 euros will now be raised through a donation marathon streamed on Twitch over the weekend.
Destiny: Activision also supports the community’s aid initiative
These are the last Trials of Osiris being utilized before they go on a break until Rise of Iron. The initiative has now developed its own dynamic, and many outside the clan want to help as well. In the short term, Activision even donated 10 t-shirts, a rain jacket, and 10 codes for Destiny – The Collection for PS4 and Xbox One.
As for the missing 3000€, the Guardian’s supporters had already raised 1870€ by Saturday afternoon. From this evening, interesting prizes will be raffled off during the stream, and more donations are also welcome.
Overall, it’s a great initiative that shows how a game like Destiny can bring people together – not just for a few months during a firefight, but far beyond that.
