In Destiny, Activision Blizzard discusses current numbers and the future of the MMO shooter. New content is expected to be more consistent.
The large publisher Activision Blizzard recently presented its quarterly figures and revealed information about Destiny. According to reports, the MMO shooter currently has nearly 30 million registered players, which means an increase of 5 million compared to the figures from November 2015. According to the company, each of these 30 million Guardians has spent an average of over 100 hours in the Destiny universe.
This enormous number of players should not, however, be equated with the number of copies sold. Some Guardians may have acquired the game secondhand. Moreover, the question arises as to how many of these accounts are still actively used. Nonetheless, this number mentioned by Activision is definitely impressive.
April update has revived Destiny, content is expected to arrive more consistently in the future
According to Eric Hirshberg, Activision’s Publishing Executive, the April update has revived the player base and has been very well received in the community. Overall, the engagement of the Guardians is “remarkably strong,” especially considering the releases of other competitors in this genre. Hirshberg states:
The passion and loyalty of our fans is something we do not take for granted.
Therefore, they will work side by side with Bungie to ensure that they can deliver a more consistent supply of “great content” in the future.
The next big content drop will be a new expansion in the fall of this year. Whether and how the time until then will be filled remains uncertain. We can expect the sequel to Destiny in 2017.
In the last quarter, which ended on March 31, Activision Blizzard reportedly achieved a net revenue of 908 million dollars, setting a new record for the company in this quarter. For comparison: last year they recorded 703 million dollars in the same three months.
With the April update of Destiny, several Exotics from Year 1 have been upgraded, which we will introduce to you in this article.
