In the MMO shooter Destiny, Chromatin was introduced with the April update. We summarize what you need to know about it.
With the April update, you can apply Chromatin to some weapons and armor pieces of your Guardians, a material that “modifies the armor with Chromatin multi-channel heat sinks.” What does that mean?
With Chromatin, you can make your Guardians’ gear shine in various colors. This gives your look a striking appearance. Whether it’s necessarily a good idea to light up like a Christmas tree while facing the Darkness and lying in wait for other Guardians in the Crucible is something each Guardian must decide for themselves.
How to get Chromatin in Destiny
You obtain Chromatin from Sterling treasures. These items are described as “mystery bags,” which have been newly introduced alongside Chromatin in Destiny. Each Sterling treasure you open can contain Chromatin and the new armor pieces “Specter Armor” and “Desolate Armor” (Taken style). This is currently the only way to access this “color change feature.”
You can obtain Sterling treasures from the following sources:
- Once a week by completing the Prison of Elders at level 41.
- Once a week by completing a match in the weekly Crucible playlist.
- Also, visit the Postmaster in the Tower each week. There is a Sterling treasure given as a gift.
- You can also spend 200 Silver in the Eververse for one.
You can earn Sterling treasures that may contain Chromatin three times a week. However, if you want to invest real money, you can acquire as many as you like.
How to apply Chromatin in Destiny?
To use your fresh Chromatin items, you first need items that are compatible with it. For example, you can enhance the new Specter Armor and many of the reworked weapons with the update.
Go to the details of your items, where the respective perks are displayed. In the second column from the left, you will find the Chromatin icon. Here you can activate the respective Chromatin glow.
You can change the color of the specified Chromatin glow by clicking the cross below the Chromatin node. This will cost you 100 Glimmer, and a random new color will be activated. Currently, the colors Red, White, Blue, and Yellow are available.
Caution: Any equipped, active Chromatin is lost if you wish to change its color afterward. So, you should not handle it too carelessly if you want to illuminate your Guardian entirely.
