In the MMO shooter Destiny there’s a new rumor circulating about the cash shop.
Update: Activision has denied this rumor to the site GameInformer. “No, we are not going to do that,” it says in an email.
A few weeks ago, in mid-December, “character boosts” appeared in the Destiny cash shop. For €30, one can now obtain a Guardian at level 25.
The offer caused confusion among fans: Why would anyone want to buy that? Reaching level 25 doesn’t take long and is fun. What’s the point behind it? Although some were upset that the cash shop was being used for such a boost and thus breaking a boundary (they originally only wanted to sell cosmetics), the anger dissipated quickly: the offer was too absurd for hardcore players.

We have learned from an anonymous source who is knowledgeable about such matters …
The site vg247.com now reports, they learned from an anonymous source familiar with the matter, that Bungie plans to introduce “ammo packs” in the cash shop. When that will happen is still unknown.
VG247 is a relatively large and successful gaming news site, and they are not known for making things up.

If this indeed comes to pass, it could trigger a similar reaction as the character boosts: bewilderment over why anyone would actually want to buy such a thing, and mild discomfort over whether Bungie is now planning to somehow limit the easily obtainable ammo syntheses in the game. Ammo was occasionally a tricky subject in Year 1 when players needed heavy ammo to feed a weapon, that had long been forgotten, .
However, in Year 2, ammo was hardly an issue anymore since the vendor Xur sells it relatively cheaply and regularly. In the past, he only brought the syntheses once or twice a month.
Maybe there’s nothing to the rumor after all. It seems even more absurd than the one about the character boosts. What do you think?
